I'm Kelsey Simon. I'm an emerging ceramics artist.
I studied ceramics in undergraduate school at the Kansas City Art Institute. Back then, my work tended toward large sculptural, nature inspired work.
After taking nearly a ten year hiatus, I've returned to the craft. It's been a whole new learning process as I remember what clay feels like between my hands. I've been experimenting with new processes of creation and decoration, searching for which speaks to me the most -- and I've turned my attention to functional work instead of sculptural (although the occasional sculptural piece sneaks its way in).
My work is focused on color, curves and contact. Each piece is hand built and shows some of the slight imperfections of being handled and touched, rather than thrown on a wheel. Patterns and color pop off the piece, meant to draw the eye and the hand, forcing one to slow down as they go about their day, whether that's drinking a cup of coffee or sharing a mug of tea.
